How to Winterize Spruce

Contents

Spruce Controller

To disable watering, go to the Spruce SmartApp, then Spruce Global Settings, then slide the Enable Scheduled Watering option to the left to turn off all scheduled watering.  In this mode, it will still be possible to manually water by using the touch buttons on the device, or through the buttons in SmartThings.

Spruce Sensors

When soil feedback is not being utilized, or for below-freezing areas, we recommend that you migrate your Spruce Sensors to an indoor area.

Spruce Sensors have been tested down to 32°F, but please keep in mind that the soil will be frozen at those temperatures, so any reported moisture readings will be invalid.

If you wish to ‘turn off’ the Spruce Sensors for the winter, you must remove the battery.  To do so, remove the 2 screws from the sensor with a Phillips screwdriver and slide the top cover off.  The o-ring in the outer groove creates a waterproof seal for the Spruce Sensor. Be careful to not lose this o-ring.  Simply remove the battery and keep it in a safe place for the next season.
